Kids’ Café resumes eating in the park, Monday – Friday,
starting July 5th from 11:00 – 12:30.
Founded in 2013, volunteers from the church provide FREE cooked lunches every weekday of the summer (except July 4th) at the Watsontown Memorial Park. This lunch program is open to any/all school-age children, regardless of school district or family background. This ministry’s conviction is that none of our communities’ children should go without a nutritious meal or some heart-pumping fun at the park. Kids’ Cafe: Watsontown is staffed by volunteers from Watsontown UMC and other individuals from the community who care and wish to invest in the lives of children.
Volunteers gather each morning of the summer to plan, pack, and pray over all of the lunches made that day. This group typically meets between 8:00AM and 10:00AM (depending on the complexity of the meal!) in the kitchen of Watsontown UMC. Other volunteers with the ministry also coordinate numerous activities for the lunch hour. Although Kids’ Cafe only lasts from 11:00am – 12:30pm daily, there is always something to do.
Are YOU interested in being a part of this vibrant outreach? Here are some ways that you can participate: (1) share a talent: teach basketball, soccer, Frisbee, four square, T-ball, crafts, cheer leading, or other hobbies and skills. (2) Help prepare lunches in the church kitchen at 9:30 AM, (3) Help serve lunch at the park at 11:00 AM, (4) Assist with clean-up at 12:30 PM, (5) Make a financial contribution and keep Kids’ Café in your prayers as we serve free lunch every Monday – Friday throughout the summer (except July 4). Kids’ Cafe: Watsontown, a certified Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), is a ministry of Watsontown United Methodist Church, in cooperation and partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Food Bank in Williamsport. All facilities used in the preparation and service of food are inspected annually for fitness for those purposes by PA Department of Agriculture in order to maintain SFSP certification.
