Daily Devotions for Friday, August 28, 2020

Good Morning Watsontown United Methodist Family,

Today’s Daily Devotions will be a “Lead Yourself” devotion.

Theme: The Centrality of Christ

Good Teacher, help me in this hour to hear your clear call to discipleship. By the power of your Spirit grant me wisdom, courage and strength to live as your disciple all day long. In Jesus name, Amen.

Psalm: Psalm 1

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Song: Trust and Obey

Reading: Matthew 5:43-48

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Closing Prayer

O my God, since you are with me, and I must now, in obedience to your commands, apply my mind to these outward tings, I beg you to grant me the grace to continue in your presence. To this end, prepare me with your assistance, receive all my works, and possess all my affections. In Jesus Name, Amen.
