History of Watsontown UMC
According to our local records, Methodists have been meeting in the Watsontown Area since 1858. Watsontown United Methodist Church was formally incorporated in 1870. The cornerstone for the original building on 3rd Street was laid on July 1, 1871. Then in 1963, the congregation completed the major addition of an educational wing to the property. In December of 2002, the congregation purchased 40 acres of land along 8th Street Drive. A new parsonage was constructed on this property in 2006, and in 2010 the congregation moved in to a spacious and modern facility that is both handicap accessible and features a gymnasium-style multipurpose room.
Through the movement of God’s Spirit, the history of Watsontown United Methodist Church is still being written! This adventure impels us into the excitement and challenges of the 21st century. Our doors are open; won’t you come along?
