Who We Are
Watsontown United Methodist Church has a vibrant past.
Our history in the community speaks for itself. Since the mid-nineteenth century, Methodists have been worshiping in Watsontown. Through changes in the community around us, the church to which we belong, major weather events, and even a recent change in our own physical location, we have a rich history of serving Watsontown and the surrounding communities. Visit our History page for more about our past and what has brought us to where we are today.
Watsontown United Methodist Church is very much alive.
Our church exists because of and for our community, and we exist to love God, and to love God’s people. Everything that we do is designed to reflect that. We believe that our actions speak louder than our words, and how we do life and how we do church is more important than how we talk about it. But, we still want to share our hearts with you, and to give you a glimpse in to what matters to us and what makes us, us.
We believe that our God’s grace is bigger than our sin, our weakness, our guilt, our shame, our illness, our unwillingness, and our circumstances – and it’s bigger than yours, too. That doesn’t mean that we don’t sin, or that we don’t have guilt, shame, sickness, or all of that other stuff. But it means that we have hope.
Our God, and our God’s grace, give us hope. We want nothing more than to introduce you to our great God.
We love and are committed to Watsontown and the surrounding communities, and you. We actively seek ways to serve our community in meaningful ways, especially through nutritional ministries such as Kids’ Cafe (our summer lunch program in the Watsontown park), Shepherd’s Kitchen (a monthly meal prepared and served at our 8th Street Drive church facility), or the Turbotville Elementary School Backpack Program; Joseph’s Closet (our monthly clothing giveaway at our 3rd Street facility); Preschool, Vacation Bible School, Youth, Special Needs, many awareness programs, participation in collaborative ministries with other churches and projects, and much more.
We believe that having property in a zip code, or having a community’s name in ours does not make us a community church; instead, being part of the community, giving back to it, caring for it, and making it a better place for all of its people does.
We are committed to worship as a lifestyle, not only as an hour of our week. We believe that our entire lives ought to honor God, and we are committed to continuing to grow in Christ. We believe that we can always sin less and be even more Christ-like, and the more we fashion ourselves to be like Christ, the healthier our relationships, families, and communities will be. We are not perfect, and we never will be, but we can always get better.
We believe that knowledge really is power, and we encourage it. As a church, we offer a range of study opportunities from Bible Studies, special topics, regular Sunday Schools, and more. Additionally, many of our members and leaders are professionals, including several with terminal degrees – and several others with advanced degrees – in many fields of study, who are available to tutor students as needed upon request. Our church is blessed with several educators with varying levels and types of experience, and a congregation and community that is blessed and desires to be a blessing in every way possible.
Watsontown United Methodist Church as a community encourages thoughtfulness, inquiry, and education.
We welcome you here, regardless of who you are, where you’re from, what you’ve done… Our God loves you. One of our most basic beliefs and core values is that our God is a loving God. Thus, we are to be a loving people.
